The draft Passenger Transportation Plan (PTP) for 2015 is available in the Online Library. The public input portion of the plan is now closed and we appreciate all those who participated in the survey.
A public meeting was held on Monday, February 9th to review the draft plan and provide an opportunity for any additional public comment.
The draft plan has been submitted to the state of Iowa review committee, and we have received the PTP review committee comments. We are in the process of addressing those and comments from the public. The final PTP will be presented for approval and adoption by the R6 board of directors at the April board meeting. After approval, the final plan will be submitted to the DOT and FTA, on or before the May 1 deadline, and will also be available on the Region 6 website.
Peoplerides is taking applications for a part-time driver position in the Region 6 area--Hardin, Marshall, Poweshiek, and Tama County. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to transporting elderly or disabled persons. Successful applicant will have great people skills, a good driving record, and be capable of transferring and securing passengers in wheelchairs. Peoplerides is an equal opportunity employer. Peoplerides recently purchased two new Dodge Ram Promaster conversion vans. The vans can transport up to five ambulatory passengers and can be used to transport two wheelchair passengers. Marshalltown driver Jerry Smoldt is pictured next to one of the vans, which will be used for transportation in the Marshalltown area. The second van will be used in Hardin County at this time.
We are also expecting two new Glaval buses by the end of February. These are larger buses with capacity of 14 to 18 passengers. Each bus will have three wheelchair positions. The larger buses will be used for route service in our counties.
The purchase price of these vehicles ranges from $54,000 to $72,000 each. All vehicles are purchased off of the State of Iowa DOT bid. FTA minimum life of transit vehicles is 4 years or 100,000 miles however we anticipate operating them much longer.
