Regional Development Initiative

The primary goal of the Regional Development Initiative is comprehensive, coordinated, and continued development and implementation of regional plans and planning efforts in the Region 6 area including:

  • Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy
  • Long Range Transportation Plan
  • Public Input
  • Ad hoc regional projects

This initiative is guided by the Regional Development Committee, which is a diverse group of professionals, community leaders, and  residents of the region. Membership fulfills the federal requirements for a committee involved in the development of an EDA approved comprehensive economic development strategy so a majority of members represent the private sector in the region.

The Initiative and Committee are a long-term effort supported by the Region 6 Planning Commission. For more information and continued updates on the Regional Development Initiative and the Committee’s activities, regularly visit this webpage. Information and materials are made available to Committee members and the public alike to ensure that everyone has access to information. If you would like even more information, please contact Alicia Presto at apresto@region6planning.org or (641) 751-0517.

Current Initiative Activities

The Region 6 Regional Development Initiative is currently focusing on the development of a Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) for the region. The purpose of a comprehensive economic development strategy is to analyze current economic conditions and determine how the region's economy can be strengthened and expanded in the future.

Goals, objectives, and supporting projects will be developed by a Regional Development Committee and any members of the public who chose to participate in the development process. This economic strategy will be prepared in accordance with guidance provided by the Economic Development Administration.
