Jenny Etter, MCBD Director, has been hired to take on this position and continue the work to ensure building and business owners have the support and information they need to best meet their needs through this process. This new position will start August 5th. The MCBD has also collaborated with historic architect Martha Green, with the help of Main Street Iowa, to create restoration plans for damaged buildings in the downtown historic district. The business disaster recovery coordinator will carry post-tornado work forward by managing restoration projects, conducting needs assessments, and helping businesses connect with available resources.

“The hard work of rebuilding is only just beginning for our downtown community,” commented Nate McCormick, MCBD President. “There will likely be more investment, development, opportunity and challenges over the next two years than any time previously in the history of downtown Marshalltown. This project will provide the focus to ensure that every available resource is at the disposal of our downtown community. This is not only critical in rebuilding, but also in sustaining the vitality, history, and character of the downtown that means so much to our community”
The business disaster recovery coordinator position has been jointly funded by a generous donation from the Martha Ellen Tye Foundation and a grant from the Economic Development Administration (EDA) Economic Adjustment Assistance Program.

“I’m excited to be a part of this terrific collaborative opportunity. Building and business owners are just starting to work toward restoring their buildings, and collaboration and support is needed to see these terrific projects come to fruition,” said Jenny Etter.
