Who Qualifies to Ride with Peoplerides?

Everyone qualifies! Peoplerides services are open to the general public, including persons with disabilities. Regardless of age, income, or disability, everyone qualifies to ride with Peoplerides. Our vehicles are handicap accessible to serve the diverse needs of our clients. The Peoplerides public transit service provides convenient, low-cost transportation for trips that either originate or end in Hardin, Marshall*, Poweshiek, and Tama counties. Trips can be for work, medical appointments, shopping, education, social, or any other transportation need you may have.

*Residents of Marshalltown are encouraged to fill out a Paratransit application in order to assess their transportation needs. A Paratransit Application can be found at the link below. The Paratransit application will determine whether the resident is allowed to utilize Paratransit services, or if the resident is better served by the Marshalltown Municipal Transit (MMT) bus system. The City of Marshalltown sets the qualification for Paratransit and what services Peoplerides may provide within the City of Marshalltown.

To apply for Paratransit services in Marshalltown, simply fill out the application and return it to the City of Marshalltown Municipal Transit at 905 E. Main Street, Marshalltown, Iowa 50158 or kpigors@marshalltown-ia.gov. If approved, Paratransit trips can be used for work, medical appointments, shopping, education, social, or any other transportation need a resident may have. Marshalltown residents who are not approved for Paratransit services can utilize Peoplerides services on a limited basis only when they are going to and from a Unity Point Hospital or Clinics at a rate of $8 each way or $16 round trip.

Your driver will come to your door if needed, but cannot enter your residence. If your driver is late, Peoplerides will make an attempt to contact you.

Peoplerides Rider Policies

No food or drink is allowed to be consumed in vehicles.

Seat belts must be worn at all times.

Baggage is limited to what you can carry. Our driver cannot assist with your baggage.

Service animals are the only animals allowed in vehicles.

Offensive language or mistreatment of drivers or other passengers will not be tolerated.

COVID-19:

As of April 19, 2022, Peoplerides will no longer enforce a mask or face covering requirement on the public transportation vehicles it operates. We understand that the rules surrounding face coverings are rapidly changing, and we will continue to monitor the federal guidelines for any further information. We will respect the wishes of any of our drivers or riders who choose to wear face coverings during their service with Peoplerides.

It is still strongly recommended that anyone who is exhibiting symptoms of influenza or COVID (including coughing) should wear a mask while riding with Peoplerides. This policy was in place prior to COVID and serves as an effort to protect our most vulnerable riders, nursing home communities, and our drivers from the spread of any flu or other infections.
